7 Encouraging Tips for Business Opportunities from Successful Entrepreneurs
The following are Seven Encouraging Tips for Business Opportunities from Successful Entrepreneurs written and contributed by Teacher Rosette Aquino of Rizal High School, Pasig City, Philippines:
- Include God in your plans.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope a future.”
In every venture we have to walk in life, always include God in our master plan. God is so just and all knowing, he is so merciful to those who seek him first. We have to pray fervently to the Lord so we will be guided on what path God will surely give us.
“If you look to God for help and work hard enough, the blessings will follow” (Elino Andres).
2. Pursue the work you love to do.
“When starting a business, especially when you don’t have much capital, stick to what you know or like doing.”
It is often suggested that you use your passions, skills and abilities in generating business ideas. You can do this as long as you hone that ideas that would allow you to work in a role that you would love to enjoy.
“You should focus, stick to your dream, be industrious and with hard work, discipline, and also you should be able to maintain good relationship with your customers” (Lorna Banzon of Balanga, Bataan).
As said by the great Steve Jobs, the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking and don’t settle for anything less.
- Look for opportunity
Opportunity to make money is just around the corner. You just have to keep your eyes open and to not be a squeamish.
Do not let yourself get comfortable with your day to day activities; opportunity to improve and be successful is what you need to look for. You may think of starting up with something small like new product or service for people around you which you think would be very useful.
You can use your ability to talk to more people and help you recognize the need and feel respected, dignified to whatever product or services you will offer. You can also accept the help of fresh graduates in your community and take the advantage of their youth in acting differently in terms of thinking for opportunity that may be the right one for you.
Finally, use your guts, and remember that if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
Ask yourself: If the Business Opportunity is that good, is it just right with the capital I have, with the skills that I developed and enhanced? Consider the rest of encouraging tips to help you decide well.
- Think of quality, not the quantity.
If you come up with a very good product, people will always come back to you.
Do not short-change customers and always strive for quality (Tita Burgos of Akle St. Tanauan, Batangas).
- Maximize the use of technology.
Use the modern technology in improving your product line.
One of the successful entrepreneurs Mr. Onofre Balantac of Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, happens to be a farmer. He said that he is grateful to the Department of Agriculture for bringing the improved garlic technology to their town.
In all areas of business, the use of technology is very useful. You can use the internet in promoting your product through a webpage/website. It is now a part of the system and you cannot get away with it.
All you need to do is to maximize its full potential in making your product known to everybody and improve its quality for a great edge in competition.
- Learn to cope with the rough ride.
“Success in business should not be measured in terms of profits earned but on how one was able to cope with the rough ride” (Rosemarie Bestre, La Trinidad Benguet).
In any undertakings, business is about taking risks. “Kung di ka tataya di ka mananalo,” this is one of the saying that most entrepreneurs keep on uttering.
But remember that we need to take risk in moderation. If you fall, try to go back until you come up with the right measurement and the right ingredients, just like in cooking.
- Be intelligent/wise
Building a business does not work in what we say as “sige lang ng sige.” We need to think of it very well.
Do you have the capital? Are you capable? Are you skilled? Likewise, think about this: “Are you Ready”.
“If you want to be incrementally better: Be competitive. If you want to be exponentially better: Be cooperative.” -Anonymous-
